Unfortunately for the hosts, that was the case in Monday’s matchup against the visiting Appomattox Regional Governor School’s Lady Dragons. There has been a different aura in the air around Charles City High School’s Lady Panthers’ volleyball team in the 2023-24 season. Despite not pulling out any victories, the group has been more competitive on the court than in recent years. New Kent High School’s Will Ashley finished third at the Trojans’ Sept. 13 home cross-country meet. Ashley ran a time of 18:32 to earn the bronze as he powered New Kent to a third-place team finish in the four-team Bay Rivers District meet. Graduating 12 players from a team of 16 players last year, Charles City’s Panthers’ football team is in a complete rebuild.
