Friday night’s football contest between the New Kent Trojans and the visiting Smithfield Packers centered on two teams looking for positive momentum. And while the two teams battled to the point where it took an extra session to settle the contest, it would be Smithfield who sent the home team packing. An overtime touchdown by the Packers offset an earlier score by New Kent, allowing for a 27-24 victory and dampening Senior Night Festivities for the hosts. New Kent celebrates Senior Night with five-set thriller triumph over Bruton

Senior Night’s have a lot of meaning, especially for graduating classes and their families. For New Kent’s Lady Trojans’ volleyball team, their Oct. 26 Senior Night contest against the visiting Bruton Lady Panthers provided both thrills and chills. New Kent defeated Bruton 25-13, 20-25, 22-25, 27-25, 15-10 in a five-set Bay Rivers District match-up to close out the regular season with a win, positioning themselves for a postseason home court game. In the first encounter with the Poquoson Lady Islanders, New Kent’s Lady Trojans loss in four sets. An Oct. 19 rematch saw those results flipped by an improved performance by the Lady Trojans. New Kent High School’s Isaac Lamprecht and Will Ashley finished first and second, respectively, as they paced the Trojans’ cross-country team to a third-place finish during the Oct. 11 home meet. Lamprecht clocked a time of 16:52, easily capturing the race. Ashley had no issues grabbing the silver spot, running a time of 17:29 over the course.
