Every Lady Trojan contributed at the plate as each batter recorded a hit. Meanwhile, New Kent pitcher Abbie Kegley kept Smithfield batters off balance with her pitching. Taking advantage of only seven hits, New Kent’s Lady Trojans completed a season sweet of the Tabb Lady Tigers. New Kent cruised to a 14-2 victory over Tabb, marking their eighth victory of the year by double digits. The first two innings were slow as New Kent held a one-run lead entering into the third inning. After holding Tabb scoreless in the top of the frame, New Kent pushed across five runs in the bottom of the fifth with hits by Brooklyn Wiles and Hannah Tober. A successful May 1 afternoon track meet resulted in Charles City’s Lady Panthers finishing in fifth place among 12 teams at the home meet. It was a special day for Jaida Braxton who took home silver in the girls’ 100-meter dash (13.01), with her time qualifying for the Group 1A state meet. She also finished fourth in the high jump (4’4”) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (28.59).
