Trouble with serving and facing a powerful opponent kept New Kent’s Lady Trojans in check as they fell in straight sets to the visiting Grafton Lady Clippers in Oct. 3 volleyball action 11-25, 19-25, 11-25. Friday night’s homecoming contest for Charles City’s Panthers featured the hosts welcoming the number two Group 1A team in the state Essex Trojans to Leon C. Miles Memorial Stadium. And while the Essex Trojans did exert dominance on the scoreboard, it was the Panthers miscues that proved to be their downfall. Unfortunately for the hosts, that was the case in Monday’s matchup against the visiting Appomattox Regional Governor School’s Lady Dragons. Ashley ran a time of 18:32 to earn the bronze as he powered New Kent to a third-place team finish in the four-team Bay Rivers District meet.
