New Kent Lady Trojans’ tennis capture first regional championship since 2000

New Kent High School’s Lady Trojans’ tennis team captured the Group 3A Region A championship with a 5-1 victory over the Lakeland Lady Cavaliers Friday afternoon. It is the school’s first regional championship in the sport since 2000. The Lady Trojans’ will now advance to the state tournament that begins on June 2, with New Kent expected to host the opening round. New Kent 5, Lakeland 1 Singles: Ross (NK) def. Lady Trojans rally from three runs down to defeat Grafton in district semifinals

As the mantra of ‘Win or Go Home’ starts to set in for teams, New Kent’s Lady Trojans were hoping to find some momentum in their May 16 semifinal contest against the visiting Grafton Lady Clippers. And it would take a strong rally in the bottom of the sixth that finally saw the home team’s bats come alive. Fighting injuries and a depleted line-up, New Kent found the obstacles too difficult to overcome in the May 16 Bay Rivers District tournament semifinal contest against the visiting Grafton Clippers. The Trojans fell 7-5 to the visitors, thus putting them in a standstill until their regional playoff contest. New Kent started the scoring early with two runs in the bottom of the first. New Kent 16U Coyotes volleyball team finished third in the National Gold Bracket of the Beachfest Tournament in Ocean City, Maryland, during the weekend of May 13. The team earned the bronze out of 21 competing teams.

New Kent boys’ soccer can’t break into win column on Senior Night

As the regular season winded down, New Kent’s Trojans looked for a glimmer of hope to send the Seniors off on a right note on May 11. But while their effort was much improved, the visiting Warhill Lions didn’t play along with the storybook ending. New Kent’s Butler, Ellis pick up wins at Bay Rivers District Track and Field Championships

New Kent’s Gabrielle Butler captured the girls’ triple jump title as part of the May 10 Bay Rivers District Championship meet held in New Kent. Butler leaped a distance of 33’0” even, winning the event. She also earned fifth place finishes in the girls’ 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.73 and in the girls’ 200-meter dash with a time of 27.60. New Kent’s Lady Trojans scored 40 points at the meat, good enough for ninth place. Warhill’s Lady Lions captured the meet with 155.5 points.
