In their last three matches, New Kent’s Lady Trojans have failed to find the back of the net on the pitch. They didn’t have that problem Monday night. In a rematch against the visiting Colonial Heights Lady Colonials, New Kent punched in eight first half goals en route to a 10-0 mercy rule victory in the non-district contest. Behind a plethora of runs in the opening inning, Surry County’s Lady Cougars coasted to a 19-2 victory over the hosting Charles City Lady Panthers Monday afternoon. Surry jumped out early in the opening inning, cruising to a 5-1 lead. In the top of the second, it appeared the Lady Panthers would escape unscathed. But a misjudgment on a pop fly in left field led to runs crossing home plate, putting the hosts behind 8-1. Charles City’s bats found it difficult to get going during a Monday afternoon baseball game against the visiting Surry County Cougars. Limited to just a few hits, Charles City’s Panthers struck out 10 times as Surry cruised to a 12-0 victory in the non-district affair. New Kent’s Trojans entered Friday night’s soccer game without a win in their last six games. Coupled with injuries and a tough schedule, it didn’t get any better Friday night. The visiting Lafayette Rams scored five first half goals as they dominated the hosts 7-0 in the Bay Rivers District match. There was only one team that handed New Kent a loss in their championship campaign last year, and that was the Warhill Lady Lions. New Kent didn’t forget about that either.
