By Robb Johnson | April 19, 2023 12:57 am

Charles City’s district baseball schedule does them no favors. After falling to the Group 1A eighth-ranked Middlesex Chargers on the road last week and facing the eighth-ranked Group 2A eighth-ranked King William Cavaliers on Apr. 20, the hosts had to deal with a Mathews Blue Devils team that despite their record, has been tough to defeat by several teams. And the Panthers found that out Tuesday afternoon. Runs in the third and fourth innings by the visiting Blue Devils provided more than enough comfort as Mathews defeated Charles City 14-0 in the five-inning mercy rule shortened contest. The Panthers held…

By Robb Johnson | April 19, 2023 12:42 am

It’s no secret that playing in the Tidewater District is tough for the Charles City Lady Panthers softball team. A Tuesday afternoon contest against the visiting Mathews Lady Blue Devils reemphasized that point. By the Lady Panthers standards, surrendering only four runs in the first inning kept them in the contest at the beginning. But with the inability to get the bats going in their half of the frame, Mathews would use the top of the second inning as…

By Andre Jones | April 18, 2023 11:56 am
