New Kent Lady Trojans’ offense stays hot, smashes Bruton in Bay Rivers District action

New Kent’s Lady Trojans’ dominance on the diamond continues, especially on the offensive side of the plate. New Kent cruised to a 25-1 victory over the Bruton Lady Panthers in Friday afternoon’s Bay Rivers District contest. After New Kent pitcher Abbie Kegley struck out the side to begin the contest, the Lady Trojans’ carousel of runs commenced in the bottom of the frame. Mariah Leonard’s double brought home teammate Kenley Rowe to put New Kent on the board. From there, Kendall White’s base knock drove home two runs to up the home team’s advantage to 3-0. New Kent pushes nine runs across plate in first two innings, routs Bruton 11-1

New Kent’s Trojans jumped out the gate with four first inning runs as they defeated the visiting Bruton Trojans 11-1 in Friday afternoon baseball action. The Trojans got on the board early with Lane Boyette’s solo home run. After that, New Kent pushed across three more runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 4-0 lead. The runs continued in the bottom of the second, with Michael Hetzel’s RBI single pushing across runs five and six for the home team. New Kent battles Prince George to a 3-3 tie in boys’ soccer

A fierce back-and-forth battle resulted in a tie Monday night for New Kent High School’s boys’ soccer team. After two halves and two overtime periods, the Trojans settled for a 3-3 tie with the Prince George Royals in a contest where the hosts could have ultimately won. After ending the first half with a 1-1 tie, New Kent’s Grayson Yates sprinted by defenders to notch a goal within the opening minutes of the second half, resulting in the Trojans taking a 2-1 lead. Panthers, Trojans put up respectable performances at Charles City Track and Field Invitational

With 24 teams in attendance and more than 750 athletes on site, the Charles City Invitational Track and Field meet provided a showcase of the host school’s talents, as well as neighboring New Kent County. Both programs did not disappoint. New Kent’s boys’ teams scored 49 points en route to a seventh-place finish as Saturday’s competition. Charles City’s boys’ team did not yield any points. With a strong returning cast, New Kent High School’s baseball team is looking to continue their dominance on the diamond. The Mar. 18 season home opener provided an early positive outlook for the Trojans. A breakout in the bottom of the fifth inning proved to be the difference-maker as New Kent defeated Lafayette 5-1 in the Bay Rivers match-up.
