Jolisa Williams, a 2008 graduate of Charles City County High School, has been awarded the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Rising Star Award for colleges. Williams, who serves as the Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations at Bowie State University, is honored with the award that recognizes a CoSIDA member with 10 years of service or less whose work, service, dedication, energy, and enthusiasm to the profession in athletic communications.

New Kent High School’s Lady Trojans Indoor Track & Field team was edged by a mere point as they had to settle for second place in the Group 3A Region A championships held Feb. 18-19 at the Boo Williams Complex in Hampton. New Kent’s Aisling Guitierrez was the top performer for the Lady Trojans. Guitierrez finished as state runner-up in the girls’ one-meter diving competition, accumulating a total of 438.25 points. Producing five state champions and one state runner-up, the Trojan grapplers easily captured their fourth consecutive Group 3A State Championship during the competition from Feb. 18-19. Charles City’s Nevaeh Coney locked up an appearance in the Group 1A/2A State Indoor Track and Field Championships with her performance at the Group 1A/2A Regional Championship meet on Feb. 16 at Boo Williams Indoor Complex in Hampton.
