Charles City’s Lady Panthers amassed 90 points en route to finishing third at the Tidewater District Track & Field Championships held on May 22 on their home track. Derequa Johnson and Jaida Braxton shined in multiple events for Charles City. Braxton took home gold in the girls’ 100-meter dash (13.04) and silver in the 200-meter dash (27.28). Charles City High School’s baseball team can’t seem to shake their mistakes. Mental errors combined with the ability to close an inning played into their downfall as they fell 16-2 to Middlesex Monday afternoon. Middlesex took advantage on the base paths with aggressive running as they turned basic hits into advances around the diamond. Couple with errors, Middlesex orchestrated a 3-0 lead before Charles City was able to get off the field in the first inning. The 2025 season has been a struggle for New Kent High School’s boys’ soccer team. And each contest comes another challenge for the youthful Trojans. The Trojans fell 6-1 to the visiting Lafayette Rams during May 16 home contest, sending the team to their tenth consecutive setback. Behind nine strikeouts by hurler Robert Gentry and a strong defensive performance, the Trojans of New Kent were able to fend off a pesky Smithfield Packers team 3-1 in Friday afternoon’s Bay Rivers District contest.
