Honoring Charles City’s Sons of the American Revolution

Charles City’s Jalen Hayes (front), a descendant of the Virginia Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), spoke about his patriot ancestor Isaac Brown at a Black History Month ceremony at Elam Baptist Church on Feb. 27. The ceremony commemorated 26 patriots of color from Charles City County that participated in the nation’s war of independence. Accompanying Hayes was guest speaker and Director of Charles City County’s Richard M. Bowman Center of Local History Judith Ledbetter.
