Burn ban law in effect until April 30
Charles City and New Kent Sheriff’s Office is reminding citizens that the burning ban law is currently in effect.
Under the law, open-air burning prior to 4 p.m. is illegal if the fire is within 300 feet of woods or dry grass. Burning after 4 p.m. is allowed as long as proper precautions are taken.
“Over the last few days, Charles City County has experienced brush fires that have burned several acres that have started due to individuals burning miscellaneous items during high winds,” said Charles City County Sheriff Jayson Crawley in a press release. “Burn bans are in effect for the next few days due to high winds.”
The burn ban expires on Apr. 30.
