Charles City Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with Charles City Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office has announced the creation of the voluntary litter reduction program in the criminal justice system.

The offices petitioned Charles City County’s Circuit Court for the creation after several planning sessions. The petition was signed by Judge B. Elliott Bondurant on Friday, Mar. 22.

The program has been created to address mass amounts of litter on Charles City roadways. The program will be used as a potential diversion program for various misdemeanor criminal offenses, particularly with youthful offenders.

Oversight of the program will be executed by Charles City Sheriff Jayson Crawley. Eligibility for the program will be determined by Charles City Commonwealth’s Attorney Tyler Klink.
