New Kent County and Cox Communications have completed a $49 million landmark broadband expansion that brings state-of-the-art fiber-optic network to every home and business in the county.

The project, which was first announced in 2022, is a combined investment from both entities, with a shared vision to ensure all residents have access to reliable, high-speed internet service.

“Expanding broadband access has been the top priority for the leaders of New Kent County for the last several years,” said New Kent Board of Supervisors chairman Ron Stiers in a press release. “This partnership with Cox and the county’s investment of $16.7 million has helped to ensure New Kent County is a great place to live and work.”

Approximately 612 miles of fiber infrastructure has been placed in New Kent County, reaching communities including Barhamsville, Autumn Hills, Dispatch Road, Good Hope Road, Talleysville, Stage Road, and Crumps Mill Road.

The expansion is part of Cox’s ongoing commitment to investing in advanced broadband and delivering the technology needed to support today’s digital economy. The new fiber network provides residents and businesses with access to fast, reliable internet service and positions New Kent to meet the demands of future technologies, applications, and economic growth opportunities.
