County-wide races for Charles City involving candidates vying for the position of sheriff and treasurer will see new leadership at the beginning of the year.

Former Charles City Captain Jayson Crawley ousted Alan Jones Sr. by a count of 1,199-859, ending Jones’ bid for his third term after votes were tallied from Tuesday night’s election.

“I just want to say thank you to all of the citizens of Charles City County for electing me as your next sheriff,” Crawley said in a press release. “I look forward to serving all in the highest capacity with compassion, fairness, and commitment.”

In the battle for treasurer, Kourtney Brown defeated LaWanda Christian for the position. Mindy Bradby, the current treasurer, chose not to seek re-election this year.

District 3 in Charles City also contained a tight battle for the board of supervisors’ seat. Incumbent Byron Adkins Sr. edged challenger Martha Harris 262-232 to retain his seat.

Other winners in Charles City County include Joy Harris and Royce Paige (At-Large School Board), Tyler Klink (Commonwealth’s Attorney), Victoria Cox-Washington (Clerk of Circuit Court), Candice Jones (Commissioner of the Revenue), Rodney Tyler (District 2 School Board), Ryan Patterson (District 1 Board of Supervisors), and Michael Hill (District 2 Board of Supervisors). Write-in ballots were received for District 1 School Board, District 3 School Board, and for Directors of Conservation for Soil and Water, but that information was not available at the time of release.

At the state level, Lashrecse Aird earned 1,681 votes for the 13th Senate Seat, while Eric Ditri garnered 1,067 votes. Delores McQuinn, who represents the 81st Seat in the House of Delegates, earned 1,556 votes from Charles City citizens.

Approximately 2,837 ballots, or 49.3 percent of registered voters, participated in the Charles City General Election.
