A Barhamsville man who allegedly refused to turn over his vehicle during a repossession has been charge with several charges including assault.

Earl Marvin Taylor, 62, of the 5500 block of Holly Fork Road, has been charged with one count each of felony assault and batter of a lawn enforcement officer, making a bomb threat, misdemeanor obstruction of justice, and misdemeanor assault and battery according to a New Kent Sheriff’s Office police report.

On Dec. 17 around 3 p.m., deputies responded to a call for service from a tow truck driver who was allegedly assaulted after attempting to repossess a vehicle. When deputies arrive, Taylor allegedly became combative, with a struggle ensuing between Taylor and the deputies. One of the deputies assaulted sustained an injury to their foot, as Taylor retreated to his residence.

New Kent’s Crisis Negotiation Team along with other law enforcement entities were deployed to the scene. Attempts to de-escalate the situation were unsuccessful over several hours, resulting in law enforcement obtaining a search warrant to arrest Taylor. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

Taylor was taken to Pamunkey Regional Jail where he is currently being held without bond.
