Robert Wayne Mallory

Robert Wayne Mallory, of Lanexa, Virginia, passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his wife and sons, after a short but brave battle with cancer, on the morning of Dec. 30, 2023.

Rob was born on Aug. 15, 1969, in Newport News, Virginia, to Harold Wayne Mallory and Beverly Ann Conley. He was raised in Hampton, Virginia, where he graduated in 1987 from Bethel High School.

Rob made his way into a 34-year career in fire protection where he was certified in backflow, fire pumps, and waterboard systems. He earned Levels 1 and 2 of his NIACETS and made many life-long friends over his career.

Rob met the love of his life, Tammy, in July 1994 at the 7-Eleven in Croaker. Rob and his friend were arguing over whether a “pink orange” was a real thing (it was a grapefruit) when she asked him for his ID. He accused Tammy of just wanting to know his name and once he took his sunglasses off, she realized he was right. He left a stick note on her car that he was her “3:00 acquaintance” since he came in around that time every day to see her. And the rest they say, is history.

They started dating in Aug. 1994 and eventually married on June 27, 1998. Rob loved Tammy with everything he had, and cold not wait to start their family. They welcomed their first son, Hunter Wayne Mallory, in 1995, and 10 years later, welcomed their second son, Fisher Bransford Mallory, in 2005. Rob loved his boys fiercely and made sure Tammy could stay home and raise them. Rob had a big soft spot for their family dogs, Camo, Liz Vicious, Jewlz, and his favorite, Chasey Lain.

He made lifelong friends throughout the years. Rob enjoyed fishing, bowling, softball, horseshoes, cornhole, cookouts, and a lot of long shed nights with his friends and family. Rob will be remembered for many things like his love for fishing, for the Redskins, but most importantly, he will be remembered for loving and taking care of his family. He always made sure they had what they needed, and that Tammy could be home with the boys. Rob loved his family with all his heart.

Rob was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Harold Mallory; maternal grandparents, John and Lucille Hall; step-grandparents, James and Christine Poole and James and Goldie Conley; and his in-laws, Douglas and Naomi Harris.

Rob is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Tammy; their sons, Hunter and Fisher; his mother, Beverly Conley (Jim); father, Harold “Wayne” (Janice); paternal grandmother, Marjorie Mallory; Fisher’s caring and loving girlfriend (and gifter of the best blanket) Alexis Adkins; brothers-in-law, Doug Jr., Ronald, James, and Darrell; sister-in-law, Angela; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, 4 p.m. at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, Virginia, 23140. Tributes may be posted at www.vincentfh.com.
