Tommy G. Shumaker Jr.

Tommy G. Shumaker Jr., 68, of New Kent, VA, passed away May 9, 2015.

Tommy started his career as an auto body repair man at the age of 15, and later was the founder and owner of Tommy’s Body Shop and Quinton Motor Co. in New Kent for over 20 years. He took his knowledge to Richmond Technical Center and taught the trade for 8 years.

He started his military career in the Army Reserves and later in life took a civilian job with the Army National Guard and finished his working career with a total of 41 years in the National Guard as a CW5 Command Chief Warrant Officer.

He was preceded in death by his parents Tommy and Berta Shumaker.

Tommy is survived by the love of his life for 48 years, Hilda; two sons, Todd (Michele) and Chris; three grandchildren, Austyn, Regan and Mason; one great-granddaughter, Makayla; two sisters, Judy Meadows (Garland) and Gladys Glass; three brothers, Donald (Beth), Benji (Betty), and Pat (Dottie).

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 15 from 5-8 p.m. at Providence United Methodist Church, 4001 New Kent Hwy, Quinton, VA 23141. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on May 16 at the church, with an inurnment to follow in the church cemetery.
