Falcons finish undefeated campaign with overtime win

New Kent Falcons Gridiron Midget Light posted an undefeated record and claimed the team championship for the 2013 season. New Kent Falcons Gridiron Midget Light team finished off an undefeated season as they defeated Western Navy 6-0 on Nov. 9 in a game that came down to the wire.

Despite defeating Western Navy 20-7 during the regular season, the teams played to a stalemate through regulation. The Falcons took the lead as offensive lineman opened a hole for Logan Powell to give New Kent a 6-0 advantage.

Western Navy attempted to score, but on its final play, New Kent’s Mason Adkins hauled in an interception to seal the game and the undefeated season.

Through the season, the Falcons outscored opponents 251 to 31, pitching seven shutouts, including two in the playoffs to compile an 11-0 record.

The starting defense did not give up any points all season long. During the regular season, New Kent defeated Western Black 25-0, Western Red 24-6, Western Royal Blue 32-6, Glen Allen 25-0, Tuckahoe Blue 24-0, Western Orange 26-0, Western Purple 21-0, Western Navy 20-7

In the playoffs, the scores New Kent 20 Tuckahoe Black 0, New Kent 28 Western Purple 12, and New Kent 6 Western Navy 0 in overtime.

The Falcons were coached by head coach Eric Thornton, Ty Flock (offensive coordinator), David Knorr (defensive coordinator), and assistant coaches Paul Shaffar, John Grazioso, Bryan Bartlett, and Jeri Thornton (team mom).
