Washington wins two events, Charles City Lady Panthers fifth in district

Charles City Lady Panther sprinter Janiya Washington earned two district titles as part of the Tidewater District Track and field championships held May 18 held in Charles City.

Washington captured gold in the girls’ 100-meter dash with a time of 13.32 and the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:05.46. Her time in the 100-meter dash automatically qualified her for the Group 1A State Track and Field Championships in June.

Charles City’s Lady Panthers accumulated 47 points, good enough for a fifth-place finish at the district championship meet.

On the boys’ side, Charles City’s Ashton English earned bronze in the boys’ shot put, advancing to regional competition.

English’s launched a personal best of 39’1” in the event, marking a new career best. His points were the only ones for the Panthers.

Charles City boys’ team finished with six points, placing seventh in the event. Middlesex’s boys’ and girls’ teams won the district championships, respectively.
