Charles City Lady Panthers place fifth at home invitational meet

Charles City’s Lady Panthers scored 37.5 points, good enough for a fifth-place finish at the Charles City Invitational Track Meet on Mar. 29.

Charles City High School received a pair of third-place performances from Derequa Johnson. Johnson placed third in the girls’ high jump with a clearance of 4’6”. Johnson also joined teammates Jaida Braxton, Taniyah Williams, and Jaela Smith in the girls’ 4×100 meter relay, clocking a time of 53.29 to earn the bronze.

The Lady Panthers finished behind winner L.C. Bird (143.5), Hanover (105.5), Brunswick (77), and Tidewater District rival Middlesex (44.5) in the 16-team meet. Charles City’s boys’ team did not score at the meet, which was also won by L.C. Bird with 121 total points.
