New Kent Lady Trojans finish in top ten at ‘Shoot the Gun and Run’ Invitational

New Kent’s Lady Trojans scored 36 points as they placed ninth out of 27 teams at their annual Shoot the Gun and Run Track and Field Invitational Saturday morning.

New Kent’s Gabrielle Butler turned in the top performance for the hosts. Butler placed second in the girls’ 400-meter dash, clocking a time of 1:01.54 to bring home the silver medal. Autumn Wallace also earned a top-three finish for the hosts, earning bronze in the pole vault with a clearance of 8’0”.

Colonial Forge emerged as the winner of the meet with 114 points, with Riverbend placing second with 69 points and Highland Springs and Manchester tying for third with 51 points. Charles City’s Lady Panthers scored four points, finishing 21st at the meet.

On the men’s side, New Kent scored 19 points, good enough for a 15th place finish in the competition.

New Kent’s Ryan Wright accounted for more than half of the Trojans’ points, as he claimed the gold medal in the pole vault competition with a clearance of 14’0”.

Colonial Forge was also able to win the boys’ team competition, accumulating 90 points. Charlottesville placed second with 68 points, and Kecoughtan rounded out the top three with 56 points. Charles City’s boys’ team did not score at the meet.
