Lady Trojans shut out defending Class 1A state champions West Point 8-0

Facing the defending Class 1A State Champions, New Kent’s Lady Trojans learned that playing tough competition means they can prepare to take on anybody.

New Kent compiled an 8-0 shutout of the visiting West Point Lady Pointers in the Apr. 8 non-district affair.

The home team started strong early, with Gretchen Smith scoring within the first few minutes. Meanwhile, the Lady Trojans’ defense kept West Point from making any attempts on shots on goal in the opening half.

New Kent’s defense turned to offense as Carlotta Kaiser’s goal at 25:50 doubled the home team’s lead. McKenna Morgheim added the third score for the Lady Trojans five minutes later, with Quinn Fiel’s 30-yard blast near the end of the half giving the home team a 4-0 by the intermission break. From there, New Kent added four more goals in the second half, leading to a mercy rule victory.

The Lady Trojans improve to 3-2 on the season.
