New Kent’s Planning Commission is recommending county Board of Supervisors’ approval of a permit request to build a 195-foot, self-supporting, lattice style cell phone communications tower on a 25-acre site about 1,000 feet northeast of the end of Topeka Road in Quinton. Planners voted 9-0 with one abstention Monday night to forward a favorable recommendation to supervisors on the request by Richmond-based National Communications Towers and property owners R. And he had already poured lots of cash into what he termed a “money pit.” Before he and his wife, Tara Leigh, bought the place in 2003, time and neglect had taken its toll. Then in searching for ways…

For the second time in less than a year, New Kent’s Board of Supervisors is revising county law with regard to motor vehicles parked illegally in lanes reserved for fire and emergency vehicles. A year ago, a New Kent General District Court judge noted the county law, as written then, had no means of enforcement and treated illegal parking as a criminal offense rather than a traffic violation. Last winter, supervisors amended the law, but now that same judge is questioning the fairness of the revised penalty adopted by the board. As it now reads, anyone found guilty in court…
