Maguire graduates from the College of William & Mary

Lindsay Maguire, a 2011 graduate of Maggie Walker Governor’s School and a Quinton resident, graduated from the College of William and Mary on May 15. Maguire earned high honors, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience. She is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, intramural supervisor for campus recreation, played shortstop for the Tribe softball club, and a recipient of the Fary Memorial scholarship. Maguire will continue her studies at Virginia Tech University’s Carilion School of Medicine in 2015 to pursue a career as a neurosurgeon. She is the daughter of James…

Kimball named to Hollins University Dean’s List

Virginia Kimball, a freshman at Hollins University and 2014 graduate of New Kent High School, has been named to the Dean’s List for the 2015 spring semester. To attain this distinction, a student must accumulate a grade-point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 grading scale. She is the daughter of Cheryl and Gregg Kimball of Quinton.

Four Rivers FSA accepting nomination for local New Kent committee

Four Rivers USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) has announced the nomination period for local FSA committees beginning June 15 and concluding Aug. 3. Executive Director Ashlee Washburn said nominations for representatives from New Kent County to serve three-year terms will be accepted by mail or submitting an application to the Four Rivers FSA office. “County committees are unique to FSA and allow producers to have a voice on federal farm program implementation at the local level,” said Washburn in a press release. Local residents earn certificates, degrees from Rappahannock Community College

Several New Kent residents and a pair from Charles City were among 437 graduates from Rappahannock Community College’s Class of 2015 during a May 8 ceremony. Graduates earned a combined 602 degrees and certificates that fulfilled requirements by the end of Summer 2014, Fall 2014, and Spring 2015. Students consisted of first and second year students at the college, as well as juniors and seniors from surround high schools. FeedMore program available in CC, NK

FeedMore, which services both Charles City and New Kent counties, is participating in the USDA’s Summer Food Service Program. Starting on June 22, meals will be provided to children without charge and are the same for children regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, age, disability, gender identity, and political identity. “FeedMore is proud once again to offer a Summer Food Service Program that will provide thousands of meals to at-risk children,” said FeedMore’s children’s program manager Hope Kestle.
