Fishing derby brings smiles to 4-H participants

Over 30 children, parents, and other family members gathered at Ed Allen’s Campground in New Kent for the 8th annual 4-H Fishing Derby. Smiles were across the faces as some participants caught their first fish, with the largest catching being a Bowfin that was 20 inches long. The event also served as the culminating for New Kent Cloverbuds. The group learned the basics of fishing, fish identification and why fish are important to the environment. Jack Lee and Kary Allen were thanked for organizing the event and helping sponsor a hot dog lunch for children, volunteers, and sponsors in attendance.

Bridging Communities win two state competitions, heads to nationals

Kyle Forst and Tristan Sumner, two students at Bridging Communities Career and Technical Center, will participate in the 2015 Microsoft U.S. National Championship in the web and game design competition in Orlando, Florida. Forst and Sumner emerged as state winners in the 2015 Microsoft Office Specialist competition. Sumner earned his title winning the MOS PowerPoint 2010 competition, while Forst topped the MOS Excel 2013 program. Under the instruction of Mrs. Paula Canaday, five students placed in state competition. Forst won the 2014 MOS National Championship last year and represented the United States in the MOS World Challenge.

New Kent County Parks and Recreation will join other localities to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Park and Recreation month this July. We are being told that Islam is a religion of peace. But true peace for Islam is when all non-believers have been concurred in war. Jihad means to fight, to war with one’s enemy. Jimmy has always been a true citizen legislator serving with humility and character. His dedication to the needs of the residents and the community is laudable.
