New Kent alum Williams instrumental in $1 million donation to HBCUs

Richard E. Williams Jr., a 1980 graduate of New Kent High School and current president of Virginia Sports and Technology Group, assisted with the awarding of a $1 million donation to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) located in Virginia. The donation was presented by Golden Nugget Online Gaming, with Williams being instrumental in organizing the contribution. The donation will be split among five colleges and universities throughout the state.

In a ‘Letter to the Editor’ entitled “This isn’t the United States of America that we are living in” in a previous edition of the Chronicle, I was an “armchair quarterback,” pontificating on things but avoiding participation in real corrective action. Jones completes U.S. Army advanced camp

Ryan Jones, a native of Quinton, completed advanced camp for the United States Army this summer. Jones was one of 149 cadets from the University of North Georgia to complete the 38-day camp. The camp is used to test cadets on their military and leadership skills.
