‘Grab-and-Go’ meals to continue at New Kent schools

‘Grab and Go’ meals for all New Kent County Public School students will still be available until the end of June 2021. Meals will be available for pick-up at George Watkins Elementary School on Tuesdays, from 3-5 p.m. and Wednesdays, 8-10 a.m. New Kent Middle School will serve meals on Tuesdays, 1-3 p.m., and Wednesday, 8-10 a.m. Meals are prepackaged and can be eaten cold or warmed in a microwave office. If a parent/child is unavailable to pick up meals, please contact Leslie Smith at 966-8508 or lsmith@nkcps.k12.va.us.

Wilmon “A.J.” Christian III, a 2002 graduate of New Kent High School, earned his Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership and Higher Education from the University of Southern California. He is the son of Wilmon and Sharonett Christian.

New Kent Circuit Court awarded CCRP grant

New Kent County Circuit Court is a recipient of a grant awarded by the Circuit Court Records Preservation (CCRP) program. The award, in the amount of $15,982, was presented to New Kent Circuit Court Clerk Amy P. Crump and will be used to conserve Plat Book 5, p. 1-50, 1967-68; Plat Book 5, p. 51-100; 1968-69; Plat Book 6, p. 1-50, 1970-1972; and Plat Book 6, p. 51-100, 1972-1974. “We’re very excited,” said Crump on receiving the grant. “These records are the history of our county. We have an obligation to make sure that they are available for future generations.”

Monday night, New Kent and Charles City High School returned sports teams to the floor for the first time in nine months. It was pleasant to see student-athletes get the opportunity to compete in the environment. But it also served as a stern reminder the sacrifices everyone must make in an effort to make these moments possible. Those who were able to view the game on social media saw the numerous precautions taken by New Kent’s Administration and Athletic staff. Organizations partner to assist with New Kent Christmas Mother

Members of the Bottom of the Bridge, Shore to Shore, and Haven of Hope LaSertoma Clubs partnered to host the 2020 New Kent County Christmas Mother program. Through generous donations from local businesses, churches, and individual families, the Christmas Mother program provided gifts to 49 families. The modified program saw families drive their vehicles into the parking lot of Corinth Baptist Church, where Santa’s elves hand-delivered gifts full of Christmas spirit. Santa’s elves will bring joy to 90 children on Christmas morning. Additional donations were received through food gift boxes courtesy of Food Lion, and stockings made by members of…

Bradford earns Master’s Degree from Shenandoah University

Becky Bradford, a 2014 graduate of New Kent High School, earned a Master’s of Science degree from Shenandoah University. Bradford earned her degree in Occupational Therapy and was recognized during a Dec. 12 graduation ceremony. She recently began her career as a Pediatric Occupational Therapist. Becky is the daughter of Jill and Steve Bradford.
