Editorial: Providing opportunities for younger generations when we move on

Survey, public hearing to be held as part of search for new Charles City Schools’ superintendent

Charles City County Public Schools has announced that it will seek input from the public in the search for a new superintendent of schools. In addition to using services provided by the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA), a survey has been created related to superintendent criteria. Richard earns Dean’s List accolades at Old Dominion University

Sydney Richard, the valedictorian of Charles City High School’s Class of 2016, has been named to the Dean’s List for the 2019 Fall semester at Old Dominion University. In order to earn the achievement, a student must be enrolled full-time and accumulate a grade-point average of 3.4 or higher.

New Kent High School to host fashion fundraiser show

New Kent High School will host its first annual “For the Love of Fashion” fundraising fashion show on Feb. 13. The show will highlight student designs, upcycled, recycled, and prom fashions. Fashion club students worked throughout the year to produce and plan the show that will consist of choreography and modeling. This year’s show will highlight the latest clothing styles while serving as a county-wide clothing drive. Proceeds from the drive and show will benefit New Kent’s Education Foundation. Scholarships available for Rappahannock Community College

More than $400,000 in available scholarships are now available to students who plan to enroll at Rappahannock Community College in the next academic year (2020-21). Scholarships are available to full-time and part-time students. Applicants complete one form which will make them eligible for all scholarships. Deadline to apply for scholarships is Friday, Feb. 14. Jones appointed Chief Operating Officer for NCUA

Rendell Jones, a 1990 graduate of Charles City High School, has been named as deputy executive director and chief operating officer of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). Jones previously worked for United States Citizen and Immigration Services from Dec. 2013-July 2014 as the agency’s acting deputy director. He also served as deputy budget director of the Department of Homeland Security. Jones began his career working for the federal service in 1996 with the Department of Justice. Jones will officially begin his duties on Feb. 2.
