Bayne achieves Dean’s List at James Madison University

Derric Bayne, a 2018 graduate of New Kent High School, was recognized for making the Dean’s List at James Madison University for the Fall 2018 Semester. In order to be named to the Dean’s List, a student must be enrolled full-time and achieve a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.

Richart earns Dean’s List honors at Virginia Tech

Hailey Richart, a 2017 graduate of New Kent High School, was named to Virginia Tech’s Dean’s List for the Fall 2018 semester. In order to be named to the list, a student must be taking at least 12 credit hours and accumulate a grade-point average of 3.4 or higher.

Youth award available from Bottom of the Bridge LaSertoma

Bottom of the Bridge LaSertoma is pleased to announce through fundraisers, the organization will sponsor a $150 Youth Service Award to a New Kent student. The award is to recognize a youth in the community that exemplifies leadership and community service. To be eligible, a student must be a resident of New Kent and recognized for outstanding performance in the areas of volunteer community service and school-required service activities. Applications are available at each of the New Kent schools’ guidance offices, or by calling Brenda Johnston at 932-9423. Applications are due by Mar. 1.

Charles City County has the most amazing communities of people that move mountains. I’ve witnessed folks coming together to donate food over the years to help feed our children on weekends and school breaks. I’ve seen young and old volunteers alike set up emergency food distribution once a month in the parking lot of St. John Baptist Church in the rain, cold, and exhausting heat. FeedMore graciously provides much needed food and has offered to help us expand to another location. Help is needed to start a permanent food pantry in Charles City.
