Cotman, Charles City native, named ‘Teacher of the Year’ in Arlington

Timothy Cotman Jr., a native of Charles City, has been named as Arlington Public School’s 2018 ‘Teacher of the Year.’ Cotman has been an educator for 22 years in Arlington and serves as the Minority Achievement Coordinator. He is also a member of the community Seeking Education Equality and Diversity (SEED) and helped create a LEGO robotics team. Cotman is the son of Timothy and Sammie Cotman of Charles City, and Olivia Brown of Highland Springs.

With news of the land purchase in New Kent by the Pamunkey Indian Tribe for the possible purpose of establishing a casino, I would ask citizens to consider this: Would you choose to buy a home and raise your family in a casino community? Some questions that should be asked now rather than later include what will be the impact of residential home values as local residents attempt to flee the casino?
