Arts Alive Inc. has announced that two scholarships will be available to local students. The C. Herbert Brown Jr. Performing Arts Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating high school senior who is from the Arts Alive service areas of West Point, King William, New Kent, and King & Queen who plan to major or minor in performing arts or music education. The Bottom of the Bridge LaSertoma is pleased to announce that the organization will be offering a $1,500 scholarship grant to a New Kent High School senior pursuing a college education. To be eligible for the Scholarship Grant Award, a high school senior can apply for the scholarship grant. The scholarship is based on financial/special needs, transcript of grades, future education, and community work/leadership. Central Virginia Emergency Management Alliance (CVEMA) will host its ninth annual Survivor Day on Saturday, April 21, 8 a.m.-12 p.m. at locations in central Virginia, including Charles City. The event is focused on providing citizens ways to prepare in case of emergencies and disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, and other hazards. Attendees will learn how to survive their home without power for at least 72 hours and what to take with them should they need to leave their home.
