New director named for VCT Foundation

Catherine Anthony has been named the new executive director of the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation. Anthony will replace Beth Weisbrod, who is stepping down on Sept. 30. Anthony is a Richmond native and has spent time in leadership positions for nonprofits and outdoor/recreational organizations. The Virginia Capital Trail runs from Richmond to Williamsburg, with more than half located in Charles City.

As the Chronicle takes the leap of faith into a weekly paper, we are starting an editorial page. As I write this first one, it was a very easy decision to a topic, and that is to thank the community. I joined the Chronicle staff in 2012 and have quickly worked my way into the position that I am in today. Halloween ‘Fun Run’ is October 21

Girl Scout Troop 5301, based out of New Kent, in conjunction with Heritage Public Library will host a Halloween Fun Run and 5K on Saturday, Oct. 21. The event will begin at Heritage Public Library at 8 a.m., with onsite registration at 7 a.m. The run is being used as a fundraiser to support Heritage Public Library and allow Junior Scouts to earn their Bronze Award. Participants are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes. Cost of the Fun Run is $15 and the 5K is $25. Charles City High School receives Bronze Medal Award from U.S. News and World Report Magazine

U.S. News and World Report Magazine have named Charles City High School a Bronze Medal Award High School. In a press release, the magazine publishes its lists of top colleges, universities, and high schools in the nation. Charles City was honored as being one of the top 118 high schools in the state of Virginia out of a possible 700.
