The 46th annual New Kent County Fair is scheduled for Aug. 11-13 at New Kent High School. Applications and information for vendors and sponsors are currently being accepted. Girls ages 5-22 are eligible to participate in the fair pageant that will take place on the Thursday and Friday of the week, with the queen being awarded a college scholarship. Local residents of New Kent County recently completed online classes from Grantham University, earning a variety of degrees as part of the March graduates list. Mark Raisner of Lanexa earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Multidisciplinary Studies. David Brakebill and Linda Sawlsville, both of Providence Forge, also earned degrees. Brakebill received his Masters of Science in Information Management with an emphasis in Project Management, while Sawlsville earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering Management. The Bottom of the Bridge LaSertoma is pleased to announce that the organization will be offering a $1,500 scholarship grant to a New Kent High School senior pursuing a college education. To be eligible for the Scholarship Grant Award, a high school senior can apply for the scholarship grant. The scholarship is based on financial/special needs, transcript of grades, future education, and community work/leadership. Charles City County has received an $10,000 Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act Implementation Grant to implement a Septic Tank Pump-out Program. Granted by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VADEQ), the program will pump out at least 38 septic tanks belonging to eligible individuals. Eligibility requirements include gross household income at or below 80 percent of area median income adjusted for family size, own the home where the tank is to be pumped, no previous grant funds for pumping out the system within the past five years, and the septic system must be located in the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act area….
