Dr. Farrar W. Howard Sr., a man who often sacrificed his time and gave back to the communities of Charles City and New Kent, died Thursday morning on Sept. 1 at the age of 91. A 1943 graduate of Highland Springs High School, Howard served as a gunner in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. Tevin Adkins graduated from Norfolk State University on Dec. 12, 2015 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business. Adkins is a 2011 graduate of Charles City High School and is the first in his family to graduate from a four-year college or university. He is the son of Luther and Brenda Adkins of Charles City and the grandson of Julia Adkins.
The Chickahominy Indian Tribe will join Native American friends and visitors from all over the country when they gather for the 65th annual Chickahominy Fall Festival and Pow-wow on Saturday, Sept. 24 and Sunday, Sept. 25 at the Chickahominy Tribal Grounds, located at 8200 Lott Cary Road, Providence Forge, VA, in Charles City. Natalie and Madison Ozmon are excited to announce the birth of their baby brother, Jeffery Alan Ozmon Jr. He is the son of Jeffery and Angela Ozmon of Lanexa. Jeffery was born on July 14, 2016, at Memorial Regional Hospital in Mechanicsville. He weighed in at seven pounds, two ounces, and was 20.5 inches long. The discovery of a historic court record book taken from Charles City during the Civil War has lifted the spirits of historians and the locality. More than 100 people braved the Aug. 15 early morning heat for the celebration of the document in front of Charles City’s Historic Courthouse, the place where the item was removed from by Union Soldiers.
