St. Peter’s Parish has recently awarded two scholarships to New Kent High School graduating seniors. Zacheriah Quimby and Torun Carlson were selected and will each receive $1,000 scholarships courtesy of the Louise Miller Clopton and William Boyd Clopton Memorial Scholarship fund. Quimby will continue his studies at High Point University to pursue a major in history, while Carlson plans to attend the University of Virginia and major in biology. A committee chaired by Bill O’Keefe selected the recipients based on their strong moral character, religious involvement, community service, motivation, academic success, maturity, and commitment to their community.
Charles City Sheriff’s Office has announced the launching of a new program to assists senior citizens. S.W.A.P. (Senior Watch Accountability Program) is aimed towards checking the well-being of senior citizens in the county. In the program, a representative of the sheriff’s office will call to check on the senior citizen. If the citizen doesn’t respond, a deputy will be dispatched to the residence to check on the welfare. Participants or their family members will be required to provide the sheriff’s office with their contact information as well as the relatives in case a problem may arise. The program is scheduled…
