Bailee Jenkins, a resident of New Kent, completed studies at PennWest Global Online as part of May 4 commencement ceremonies. Jenkins earned a Master of Science in Exercise Science and Health Promotion-Sports Psychology from the university.
Annabelle Brame, a resident of New Kent, has been named to the University of Delaware’s Dean’s List for the Spring 2024 semester. In order to be recognized for the achievement, a student must be enrolled full-time and accumulate a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.
Caleb Massie, a resident of Barhamsville, recently earned a degree from Bridgewater College following May 4 commencement exercises. Massie graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in business administration from the college.
New Kent Sheriff’s Office received a check of $8,047 as the result of the third annual Devin Samuels Memorial Truck and Car Show held on Apr. 27 at Colonial Downs. The event was held in memory of Devin Samuels who passed away in a car crash in 2021. The funds will be used towards the child safety seat and occupant protection program, providing educational information.
As the ongoing fight against the deadly disease known as cancer continues, many people are stepping up to the cause to put on unique events to raise funds to support research and find a cure. New Kent Field Hockey Cristen Sickal is one of them. Sickal organized the “Cruising for Cancer” event held Saturday at Pine Fork Park. Christopher Martell, a 2021 graduate of New Kent High School, recently completed his studies at American University following Spring 2024 commencement ceremonies. Martell graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Arts in Justice and Law and with a minor in Legal Studies.
A temporary traffic signal will be coming to New Kent County due to the Interstate 64 expansion and will close an exit ramp until 2027. Virginia’s Department of Transportation announced that starting in September 2024, a signal will be placed at the intersection of New Kent Highway (Route 33) and the Interstate 64 westbound exit ramp. The current ramp for will be closed to all traffic for at least two years. The left lane on the two-lane highway on Route 33/249 eastbound will be a left-turn only ramp.
