Chronicle announces guidelines for 2023 candidate publications

The New Kent-Charles City Chronicle is announcing procedures for individuals running for public office for the 2023 general election in November. Individuals running for public office may submit a brief statement introducing his or herself, what position they are running for, along with a headshot anytime from now until the June 29 edition. Statements following the June 29 edition will be run at the editor’s discretion. Chronicle staff will conduct follow-up interviews in August and September of this year. New Kent students earn berths to Junior BETA national convention

Students from New Kent Elementary and New Kent Middle School Junior BETA clubs performed valiantly at the state convention in Hampton. Between the two schools, more than 30 awards in various categories that included academics, visual arts, and more were judged at the competition. Three locals named to Dean’s List at Brightpoint Community College

Three local students were named to the Dean’s List at Brightpoint Community College for the Fall 2022 semester. Terry Cotman of Charles City, Morgan Fitzpatrick of Providence Forge, and Jessica Lull of Quinton, were all recognized for their academic achievement. In order to be honored on the Dean’s List, a student must accumulate a grade-point average of 3.2 or higher.

Two earn Dean’s List honors from University of Maryland-Global Campus

Two local students were named to the University of Maryland-Global Campus Dean’s List for the Fall 2022 semester. Jeremiah Busetto of Providence Forge, and Brandon Harcum of New Kent, received the recognition from the school. In order to qualify for the academic honor, a student must complete at least six credits during the term and earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.

Spangler named to Dean’s List at Coastal Carolina University

Melissa Spangler, a resident of New Kent, was named to the Dean’s List at Coastal Carolina University for the Fall 2022 semester. In order to be recognized for the achievement, a student must be enrolled full-time and accumulate a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.

Bottom of the Bridge LaSertoma Club is offering two scholarship grants to graduating students of New Kent High School. A $1,500 scholarship will be awarded to a New Kent High School Senior pursuing a college education at either a community college or four-year institution. Another $1,500 will be awarded to a New Kent High School senior enrolled in a technical, nursing, or culinary arts field through Bridging Communities Career and Technical Center.
