Elizabeth Ross posted a grade-point average of 4.68 as valedictorian of New Kent High School’s Class of 2022. She was a member of the New Kent High School girl’s tennis team, the Student Council Association, BETA, and member of the Teen Advisory Board at Heritage Public Library. Elizabeth will be attending the University of Virginia where she will study neuroscience as part of her pre-medical track. She is the daughter of William and Lisa Ross.
William Diggs is salutatorian of New Kent High School’s Class of 2022 with a grade-point average of 4.67. He is the president of the Student Council Association, was a member of New Kent High School’s boys’ tennis team and New Kent High School’s indoor track and field team. William will be attending the University of Virginia where he plans to major in finance. He is the son of Ed and Lisa Diggs.

Nathan Warlick, a resident of Providence Forge, recently graduated from the University of Alabama. Warlick earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce and Business Administration. He was recognized during Spring commencement ceremonies on May 6-8.
Hailey Richart, a 2017 graduate of New Kent High School, recently completed her studies at Virginia Tech. Richart earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering and a minor in Astronomy. She has been employed by Maxar Technologies in Denver, Colorado, as a space environment’s engineer.
Cole Girouard, a resident of Quinton, accumulated Dean’s List honors from Shenandoah University for the Spring 2022 semester. In order to be named for the accolade, a student must be taking at least 12 credit hours and earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.
New Kent High School’s Peyton Wheeler was announced as the winner of the Public Service Announcement category in the Virginia High School League’s Film Festival on June 4. Wheeler created a one-minute video entitled “When will you be home?” to bring awareness about the dangers of texting while driving. Wheeler was instructed by David Haviland, who commented that this is the first time a student from New Kent has won in a category at the state level. The Virginia Highway Marker program dedicated a historical marker to the descendants of an enslaved person on June 4 at Berkeley Plantation in Charles City. The marker provides a description of the life of Emanuel Quivers, who was born at the plantation in 1814. Quivers became a Tredegar Iron Works supervisor and purchased freedom for himself and his family, journeying to California. In California, he campaigned against testimony laws that prevented persons of color from testifying against whites and was in favor of equal educational opportunities for Black children.
