Jones commissioned as second lieutenant into United States Army

Ryan Jones, a resident of Quinton, was among 77 cadets commissioned as a second lieutenant during his graduation ceremony from the University of North Georgia. Jones earned a degree in Strategic and Security Studies. He was commissioned by the United States Army in the Infantry division.

New Kent’s Vick places second in VHSL state essay contest

New Kent High School Senior Lauren Vick placed second in the essay category of the Virginia High School League’s Creative Writing state competition. Virginia High School League’s creative writing championships combine all schools into one division. Vick composed the essay “Cages” for her entry, garnering a superior rating from judges.

Rudd initiated into Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society

Jaquelyn Rudd, a resident of New Kent, was recently initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at George Mason University. In order to be admitted to the organization, individuals must be selected and approved by a chapter, be in the top ten percent of seniors or top seven-and-a-half percent of juniors. Graduate students must be in the top ten percent of their class.
