Editorial: New Kent’s growth is the blueprint for Charles City County

Last week, AutoZone’s Distribution Center broke ground in New Kent County, opening the possibility of 352 new jobs. Along with Quinton Elementary School’s scheduled opening, the county’s leaders have listened to the people and continues to flourish. They continue to make a statement on what it means to be responsible from the fiscal standpoint, as well as flat out getting things done. Mills earns Dean’s List recognition at University of Utah

Alexa Mills, a resident of Providence Forge, was named to the Dean’s List at the University of Utah for the Spring 2022 semester. In order to be named to the list, a student must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher while taking at least 12 graded credit hours.

Former Charles City salutatorian recognized on Mary Baldwin University’s Dean’s List

Delaney Narron, Charles City County High School’s Class of 2021 salutatorian, made the Honors List at Mary Baldwin University for the Spring 2022 semester. To be recognized for the accolade, a student must accumulate a grade-point average of 3.75 or higher while enrolled as a full-time student.

Two locals earn degrees from Radford University

Two local residents graduated from Radford University as part of Spring 2022 commencement ceremonies held on May 7. Kirsten Torrence of Quinton earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance. Skylar Hogge of New Kent earned an Associate of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy Assistant.

Two local residents earned degrees from Shenandoah University and were recognized during May 2022 Spring commencement ceremonies. Patricia Waters of Providence Forge earned a Doctorate in Non-Traditional Pharmacy. Michael Amadeo of Quinton graduated with a Bachelor of Education in Elementary Education.

Cami DiSanto, a resident of Providence Forge, earned a spot on Drury University’s Dean’s List for the Spring 2022 semester. In order to be recognized for the achievement, a student must earn a grade-point average or 3.6 or higher while taking at least 12 or more semester hours.

Tamera and Christian Dore, of Lanexa, Virginia, are pleased to announce the upcoming marriage of their daughter, Alexandra Victoria Dore, to Kellen Mitchell Shearin, son of Darlene and Donald Prevish of Toano, VA, and Willis and Laura Shearin, of Moyock, North Carolina. Ms. Dore is a 2017 graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Business. She is currently an auditor with the West Virginia Department of Taxation.
