Letter to the Editor: Let’s have better behavior toward our fellow humans

By Community Member | March 10, 2022 9:01 pm

I want to exert my influence for good on you all, however small it might be. Our society is a tad ragged and could use something beyond the latest technology. We see technological advancements all around us but have not advance significantly as a civilized brother and sisterhood of people. The way we think and act overall is pretty much like it has always been; often compromising righteousness for our selfish ends. It’s time to do something about this. We need to develop more constructive thoughts and behavior toward our fellow humans. We’ll never be perfect, but we can be…

Editorial: Stepping out your comfort zone to take a risk

By Robb Johnson | March 8, 2022 10:14 am

In a world where we are comfortable doing just enough, when is that no longer good enough? We all have a comfort zone whether we admit it or not. The purpose of that zone can be anything from personal to professional reasons. This is understandable because in life, we have certain habits and do not want to break those habits. The problem is sometimes we never break out of this zone for fear of not getting the same results. We have to grow and understand that in life we have to start taking chances. So many people call it taking…

Editorial: Athletics are winning at Charles City and New Kent High School

By Robb Johnson | March 1, 2022 4:36 pm

I want to send a shout out to the athletic programs at Charles City and New Kent High School. I have seen a lot of positives this far, from both teams. New Kent High School’s wrestling team won their fourth state title in a row. This is a huge accomplishment and I have happy to have covered many of their events throughout the run. I want to recognize New Kent’s girls’ and boys’ basketball teams. The boys’ lost despite a furious comeback in the regional quarterfinals and showed they had the determination to give it their all. The team also…

By Community Member | February 22, 2022 9:19 pm

Waking up the other morning, I thought of miraculously becoming young. Of course, it can’t happen. I’m still the same old codger and ancient-looking grizzled geezer. The Fountain of Youth eludes me. Science keeps finding ways to extend people’s lives and prevent various types of dementia. The number of centenarians in the United States now total over 80,000. The challenge is to get old gradually and, when possible, productively. Your life force or intangible spirit can actually grow…
