Since 1997, National Family Caregivers Month has been observed in November to recognize the many individuals who compassionately and humbly care for others and to draw attention to the many challenges they face. Grandparents stepping forward to protect and nurture children, and relatives care for other family members are tremendous sacrifices. Heritage Public Library’s branch located in Charles City will host a World War II reenactment event on Nov. 13. From 10 a.m.-5 p.m., the Intelligence and Reconnaissance Platoon, 41st Armored Infantry Regiment, 2nd Armored Division, and the American Red Cross in the European Theater of Operations will put on the reenactment of the event. Ryan Jones, a native of Quinton, has been recognized as a Distinguished Military Graduate by the University of North Georgia. Distinguished Military Graduates are selected from the nation’s tox six senior military colleges and are commissioning cadets who finish in the top 20 percent of Army graduates. Jones ranked in the top ten percent of his ROTC class by achieving a superior grade-point average, strong performance in the combat fitness test, and proving his worth as an exceptional leader in his college ROTC training.
Family and friends welcomed Tripp Bruce Howard, a gift from the Lord. Tripp was born on Sept. 22, 2021, and is the son of Bruce Howard Jr. and Alissa Howard of New Kent. Grandparents are Steve and Diane Kelly of Mechanicsville, and Bruce Howard Sr. and Betty Howard of Charles City. New Kent County Lions Club is collecting soft plastic material as part of a recycling project. The group will be collecting the material on Nov. 10 and Nov. 17, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Providence Forge Food Lion parking lot, and from 3-5 p.m. at the Food Lion on 249 in Quinton. The Benjamin Harrison Bridge that connects the counties of Charles City and Prince George will close overnight for several days in early November. Beginning Sunday, Nov. 7 and concluding on Friday, Nov. 12, the bridge will close from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. to vehicular traffic for routine washing.
