Charles City woman guilty of using credit card of deceased man
A Charles City woman who used a credit card of a deceased man pled guilty during Friday morning proceedings in Charles City Circuit Court. Teresa Fay Lloyd, 62, of the 6100 block of Sign Post Lane, entered a guilty plea to a single count of credit card fraud as part of a plea deal. In a summary of evidence, on Nov. 30, 2017, Barbara Slater notified authorities that transactions were being made on a credit card of a family member who had recently died. Harrison Hunt is salutatorian of New Kent High School’s Class of 2018 with a grade point average of 4.5. He attended Chesapeake Bay’s Governor School. Harrison was a member of BETA, Quiz Bowl, and a member of the boys’ soccer team. Harrison plans to attend Virginia Tech University and pursue his studies in engineering. He is the son of Bonnie and Michael Hunt.

Zhi Jin posted a grade-point average of 4.58 as valedictorian for New Kent High School’s Class of 2018. Jin studied at Chesapeake Bay’s Governor School. He will be attending Virginia Tech University and plans to major in engineering. He is the son of Yueyun Zheng.

An intertwining message given to 236 graduates of New Kent High School’s Class of 2018 focused on the theme of being “New Kent Strong” to make an impact. Friday night’s commencement ceremony at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Siegel Center brought the outgoing class along with families and friends to witness the festivities. Charles City school board offices relocating operations to school complex
Charles City School Board offices will be relocating this upcoming August. School operations will transfer from its current home, the Charles City School Board and Government Administration building, to the school’s campus, 10035 Courthouse Road. Offices will be located in what formerly was known as the middle school’s main office. School board meetings will take place in the high school auditorium to coincide with the move. The area that currently houses the school board will be occupied by the county’s social services department. Man to serve two months for identity theft in New Kent
A Goochland man will spend two months in jail after pleading guilty to an amended charge of misdemeanor identity theft (originally felony identity theft). Donald Justin Smith, 35, of the 2100 block of Haskin Road, entered the plea to the charge as part of Monday afternoon proceedings in New Kent Circuit Court. In a summary of evidence provided by Commonwealth’s Attorney Linwood Gregory, Smith obtained Power of Attorney from Yvonne Curbean, his grandmother in 2016.
