Heritage Public Library may be getting a new permanent home after action was taken during the Jan. 11 meeting of New Kent’s Board of Supervisors. With no clear-cut vision on a new elementary school in sight, New Kent superintendent of schools Dave Myers turned his focus to improving the current ones in the county. A proposal recommended to the county’s school board has put emphasis on one of those schools. A Providence Forge woman who received an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) through illegal means will serve one year in the Detention and Diversion program. Erin Merrill Bierworth, 33, of the 6700 block of Halstead Lane, received the sentence during Jan. 11 afternoon proceedings in New Kent Circuit Court. Last Sept. 22, Bierworth worked for Ronald Marshburn and used his information to receive the ATV. She also used Marshburn’s information to obtain money in an effort to pay her rent. A New Kent grand jury handed down indictments to three individuals on Jan. 11 in New Kent Circuit Court. –Chad Jerome Freeman, 30, of Virginia Beach, on one count of child endangerment. According to the indictment, on Nov. 13, 2015, Freeman was driving at a high rate of speed when he was pulled over by a police officer. The Benjamin Harrison Bridge connecting Charles City and Prince George County will close for repairs this weekend during overnight hours. The bridge will close beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 15 and reopen on Saturday, Jan. 16, 5:30 a.m. to repair the bridge’s stop gate that was damaged in an accident last December. Also on Jan. 16, there will be alternating lane closures from 5:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Drivers are advised to use Route 5 West to Interstate 295 South to exit 13A to return back to Route 10 East as an alternative route. A Providence Forge man was killed in northern Virginia as he walked along Interstate 95 Monday night. According to a Virginia State Police report, Jeremy D. Collins, 36, died in Springfield after he was hit by a car traveling southbound on Interstate 95. The report indicates a 2012 Toyota Corolla was traveling in the left lane when it approached a pedestrian wearing dark clothing and walking in the travel lane. A Charles City man who allegedly attacked his stepdaughter’s boyfriend has been indicted by a Charles City Circuit Court grand jury. Todd Alfonzo Tabb, 52, of the 8900 block of Old Elam Cemetery Road, received an indictment on one count of malicious wounding. According to the indictment, Tabb allegedly stabbed Marcus Tyler during an Aug. 23, 2015 confrontation that escalated from a conversation. Tabb is currently being held without bond and is scheduled for a March 15 jury trial. A New Kent man will spend three months in jail after accepting a plea agreement during Monday morning New Kent Circuit Court proceedings. Zakary Egan Perkins, 19, entered a guilty plea to an amended charge of misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor (originally misdemeanor sexual battery). Virginia’s Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced a pavement repairing project next week in New Kent. On Jan. 7, Interstate 64 eastbound between mile markers 205 (Bottoms Bridge) and 224 will have alternating lane closures from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. for pothole patching.
