A Richmond man will spend the next three months in jail after pleading guilty to possessing an illegal substance during Friday morning procedures in Charles City Circuit Court. Both Charles City and New Kent’s Board of Supervisors reorganized at recent meetings for the 2021 calendar year. In New Kent, District 1 representative Thomas Evelyn was elected chairman. District 2 leader Tommy Tiller will assume the role of vice-chairman. In Charles City, District 1 leader Gilbert Smith was named as chairman for the year. District 3 representative Lewis Black III was given the nod as vice-chairman.
A Lanexa man has been formally indicted with a second-degree murder charge by a New Kent grand jury. Michael Anthony Jenkins, 39, of the 15000 block of Pocahontas Trail, received indictments on one count each of second-degree murder, grand larceny, burglary, possession of a weapon by a non-violent felon, and two counts of firearm larceny. A Richmond man has been indicted by a Charles City grand jury. Larry E. Gammon, 39, of the 4700 block of Caldwell Avenue, had one indictment of possession of a Schedule I/II substance certified by the grand jury during Tuesday morning proceedings in Charles City Circuit Court. The indictment alleges that Gammon was in possession of cocaine after he was pulled over for a traffic infraction on Oct. 14, 2020. Gammon’s case it tentatively set for Jan. 15.
Internet services continue to be an issue in Charles City County. Hopefully, a Tuesday night update provided a glimmer of hope for a topic that has been plaguing citizens for five years. Charles City Assistant County Rhonda Russell provided an update on the two providers that are planning to come to the county as part of Charles City’s Board of Supervisors meeting. Russell first addressed SCS Broadband, a company that had planned to bring wireless Internet to citizens through the airwaves. A Hampton man will serve an alternative sentence for grand theft auto after receiving formal sentencing during Monday afternoon proceedings in New Kent Circuit Court. John Perlie Dawson Jr., 33, of 16 Kenneth Street, learned that he has been accepted into the CCAP (Community Corrections Alternative Program) and will serve at least two years in the program. After six months of negotiations, Charles City Public Schools inked a contract with ABM Solutions during Tuesday night’s regular school board meeting. The agreement will allow the two parties into a contract that will allow ABM Solutions to assist with repairs in the school while providing a cost savings. In June of this year, it was determined that the group could assist with $4.6 million in repairs to the school’s complex.
