A Providence Forge man will spend 13 months in jail on DUI related crimes after receiving formal sentencing during Charles City Circuit Court proceedings on Nov. 5. Two men were indicted as part of grand jury proceedings that took place on Nov. 5 in Charles City Circuit Court: –Joseph E. Brown, 56, of the 7300 block of Trevors Road, Charles City, on one count of abduction. Brown allegedly blocked his victim in with a car and wouldn’t allow them to leave on July 10. –Haywood Carnell Robinson, 58, of the 4400 block of Wayside Road, Charles City, on three counts of aggravated sexual battery with a minor. The offenses allegedly took place in Oct. 2019.
Voters in Charles City County have elected to keep the Civil War monuments at the courthouse complex. In a question posed by referendum, “Should the Board of Supervisors of Charles City County remove both the Civil War monument in from of the Old Courthouse and the Civil War monument inside the Old Courthouse?”, 2,360 votes (55.11 percent) responded with an answer of “no”, while 1,922 (44.89 percent) responded “yes”. A charge lodged against a Quinton man was dismissed Monday in New Kent Circuit Court. Travis Wayne Bragg, 29, of the 7800 block of Timber Drive, was found not guilty on a lone count of possession of a Schedule I/II substance. Bragg was charged with illegally possessing methamphetamine on Oct. 24, 2019. However, evidence presented at the trial was not enough to convict him of the charge, leading to the not guilty verdict being rendered.
New Kent’s Board of Supervisors approved an appropriation to complete Phase 1 of the Pine Fork Park Project. Board members voted 4-1 to move $325,591 from the capital reserve fund to finish the project during Tuesday morning’s work session. For the most part with the exception of the concession stand, Phase 1 of Pine Fork Park is near completion. The project, originally priced at $4.38 million, had been reduced down to $4.121 million after reducing some costs. Charles City’s Board of Supervisors is receiving information that may lead to the implementation of a Business-Professional Operation License (B-POL) tax for fiscal year 2022-23. Local leaders received an update on the process from County Administrator Michelle Johnson during Tuesday night’s regular board meeting. A lawsuit filed on the behalf of 20 families of former patients at Cumberland Children’s Hospital located in New Kent County is seeking $127 million. In a press release, Breit Cantor Attorneys filed the civil suit in Richmond Circuit Court Tuesday morning. The suit was filed against Cumberland Hospital for Children and Adolescents, Universal Health Services who owns the company, psychotherapist Herschel “Mickey” Harden, and former medical director Daniel N.
