Providence Forge woman dies in Charles City car accident

Virginia State Police are investigating a Charles City crash that resulted in the fatality of a Providence Forge woman. Shortly before noon on Monday, Aug. 24, state troopers responded to the 7000 block of S. Lott Cary woman. A preliminary investigation indicates a 2009 Cadillac CTS was traveling north on S. Lott Cary Road when it crossed the center line and struck an oncoming 2015 Chevrolet Silverado and the trailer it was pulling. The driver of the Cadillac, identified as Glenda L. Route 155 bridge scheduled to reopen next week

The F.W. “Wakie” Howard Jr. Bridge on Route 155 (Courthouse Road) that connects Charles City and New Kent County is slated to reopen next week. The bridge closed on June 1 for repairs to the bridge’s deck. The project was delayed for one year due to concerns from local business owners. The bridge is tentatively set to open on Tuesday, Sept. 1 according to Virginia Department of Transportation representative Marshall Winn. He also commented that if it’s not open by then that it should be open by the end of the week.

Quinton man receives six-month sentence for third protective order violation within 20 years

A Quinton man incarcerated at a correctional facility entered a guilty plea to felony violation of a protective order. Kyle Robert Crews, 24, formerly of the 1200 block of Quaker Road and currently residing at the Lunenburg Correctional Center, entered the plea during proceedings Monday in New Kent Circuit Court. In a summary of evidence, on Sept. 29, 2019, Crews made contact with a person that he was ordered not to have any interaction, direct or indirect, with. Driver involved in $112,000 robbery in Charles City sentenced to 13 years in prison

A Dinwiddie man who drove the getaway car for a $112,000 robbery in Charles City will serve 13 years in prison after receiving formal sentencing during Friday proceedings in Charles City Circuit Court. Stephen Hunter Martin, 31, of the 8200 block of Vaughan Road, will serve two five-year sentences on use of a firearm in commission of a felony (second offense) and three years on one count of use of a firearm in a felony (first offense). The ongoing saga known as Internet in Charles City County started in 2014, with each chapter of highs, lows, and hopes along the way, only to be squashed. Hopefully after Monday night’s town hall meeting held by Charles City’s Board of Supervisors, the book can finally come to a satisfying conclusion for many residents in the county. New Kent schools switch to all virtual restart to begin FY2020-21 year

New Kent County Schools are shifting to an all-virtual instruction mode after a school board work session Monday night. The change comes approximately a few weeks after the school board originally chose to allow parents/guardians to choose their method of instruction. A New Kent teenager will spend four months in jail after accepting a plea deal during Monday morning proceedings in New Kent Circuit Court. Mitchell Payne Morse III, 18, of the 7700 block of Poindexter Road, entered no contest pleas to two amended charges of misdemeanor petty larceny (originally forgery/uttering) as part of a plea agreement. Simple assault charge lodged against former New Kent High School coach dismissed

A charge against a former New Kent High School coach has been dismissed. John William Fulks, 42, of the 14000 block of W. River Road, King William, had one count of simple assault dismissed during Monday afternoon proceedings in New Kent Circuit Court. On Nov. 8, 2019, Fulks allegedly was involved in an altercation that took place in the locker room prior to an away game. Lifetime dog license established in New Kent

Dog owners in New Kent will be required to purchase lifetime licenses for their pet beginning Jan. 1 of next year. New Kent’s Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the recommendation to establish a lifetime dog license during Monday night’s board meeting. The approval came after County Administrator Rodney Hathaway received a request from treasurer Charles Evelyn. The lifetime license will replace the annual renewal that is currently required by the county. The license will cost $15 per dog for ages four months and older.
