New Kent Emergency Center breaks ground, pegged for Spring 2020 opening
When you sit back and think about what an emergency center would mean to a locality, it means growth and additional services for citizens. That is exactly how many people feel in New Kent after a groundbreaking ceremony for the VCU Trauma Center took place Monday morning. Local and state dignitaries, along with representatives from Virginia Commonwealth University, attended the press conference and groundbreaking at 2495 Pocahontas Trail in Quinton, the site of the new facility. Quinton man receives 18 months for DUI maiming, child endangerment convictions
A Quinton man who wrecked a vehicle that caused severe injuries will spend the next 18 months incarcerated. James Gray Priddy Jr., 30, of the 1600 block of Arrowhead Road, entered guilty pleas to one count each of felony child endangerment, DUI maiming, and misdemeanor DUI with an elevated blood-alcohol content level greater than .20 while a minor was in the car as part of a plea agreement reached Monday in New Kent Circuit Court. Evelyn bids to represent District 1 in New Kent once again
Thomas Evelyn has announced that he will be seeking to represent District 1 on New Kent’s Board of Supervisors again. “It has been a pleasure to serve the residents of District 1 and New Kent for the past 11½ years,” he said in a press release. “As the second fastest growling locality in the Commonwealth, the residents of New Kent County deserve someone in District 1 who has a deep understanding of smart growth in our county.”
Bradby seeks Charles City treasurer’s role again
Mindy W. Bradby has announced that she will be seeking re-election as the treasurer of Charles City County. “I am extremely grateful for the past eight years in which the citizens have allowed me to serve as county treasurer,” she said in a press release. “With over 17 years of working in the treasurer’s office, I feel I have the experience and vision needed to continue moving our county towards a positive and prosperous future.”
Meade plans to run for New Kent School Board seat
Wayne Meade has announced his intentions to run for the District 1 seat to New Kent’s School Board. “As a pastor, father, and grandfather, I am committed to building relationships with the Board of Supervisors, parents, teachers, and administrators to address the growing needs of New Kent schools,” he said in a press release. “Building bridges moves us from where we are to where we want to go.”

New Kent High School Class of 2019 Valedictorian- Taylor Yates
Taylor Yates posted a grade-point average of 4.67 as valedictorian for New Kent High School’s Class of 2019. She studied at Chesapeake Bay’s Governor School, was a member of New Kent’s Lady Trojans’ softball team, the Renaissance Club, and BETA. Taylor will be attending the University of Virginia Tech and majoring in chemistry. She is the daughter of Jeff and Debbie Yates.
New Kent High School Class of 2019 Salutatorian- Brandon Bonner
Brandon Bonner is salutatorian of New Kent High School’s Class of 2019 with a grade-point average of 4.64. He was a member of FBLA, BETA, FCA, Eternity Club, president of the Richmond Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers and served as a member of New Kent Clean County Committee where he is the acting chairman. Brandon will be attending the University of Virginia and plans to pursue his studies in aerospace and mechanical engineering. He is the son of Shem and Lauren Bonner.
