Several Charles City High School softball players have been named to Tidewater District and Region 1A teams for the season. Pitcher Logan Jones, second baseman Kennedi Adkins, and shortstop Aalaya King were all second team selections to both the Tidewater District and Region 1A. Catcher Eryn Brown received the nod to the Tidewater District second team as well. Charles City Lady Panthers Head Coach Lucas Jones was selected as the Tidewater District Coach of the Year alongside assistant coach Michael Logan.
From the onset of the season, New Kent’s mission was to win a Class 3A State Championship. Now, they are one game away. New Kent defeated the Spotswood Trailblazers 3-1 in the state semifinals matchup in Abingdon, setting up a championship contest against Turner Asby. Spotswood started the scoring in the top of the second inning, as an RBI by Chasen Chandler provided the team their first and only lead of the contest. While many doubted the journey, New Kent’s Lady Trojans overcame the odds of being a young team to make the Class 3A state semifinals. And while there were many celebrations and high points, the youthfulness of the squad factored into Friday morning’s state semifinal. The Lady Trojans season came to an end, falling to the undefeated Abingdon Lady Falcons 11-1 in the state semifinal matchup. New Kent was up to bat first in the contest. Four local students were named to the President’s List at James Madison University for the Spring 2026 semester. Olivia Brightwell and Evelyn Batkins, both of Quinton, Daniella Flowers of New Kent, and Akira Hicks of Lanexa were recognized by the university for their academic accolades. To be named to the President’s List, a student must be enrolled full-time and earn a grade-point average of 3.9 or higher.
New Kent’s DMV Select will have new operational hours beginning during the next fiscal year. Beginning on Wednesday, July 1, the new hours will be 8 a.m.-12 p.m., and 1-4 p.m. The DMV Select office is located in the New Kent County Administration Building and handles transactions including vehicle titles and registrations, license plates, permits, and transcript requests.
